In a 2005 commencement speech that the late great Steve Jobs gave, he said: “…you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Looking back, and connecting the dots for myself, I started Inertia, with a desire, belief, perhaps a feeling for something different. I wasn’t completely sure how to set a direction at that moment in time, but I honestly have to say that I never imagined Inertia would become anywhere near what it is today. I only knew that I wanted to do my work somehow differently to what I had experienced during my first 10 years as an engineering professional. Not to say that my formative professional career was somehow bad or negative, I don’t have any regrets. I realized after the fact that it just wasn’t how I wanted to work. It was certainly challenging, trying, and downright exhausting at times but nothing great ever comes easy. After all, it made me into what I am today, an accomplished engineer, entrepreneur, leader, husband, and father.
